Though, I did not even expect an article which would come close to the already low standards of popular science, I was not prepared that it came with not a single bit of fact based knowledge or the slightest attempt of proving what the author does speculate about. But one could have been warned by the clickbait teaser ... "Why the Soviet Union Stopped Digging ... When They Attempted to Drill Through the Earth". Despite knowing better, I fell for it, because I really wanted to know whether the goal actually was to drill through the earth for real.
